Shopping in Fort Frances- "A Visit to Saan" - January 25, 2003
After spending two days working in Fort Frances, I had Satruday, January 25, 2003, as a travel day, which I just had to do as a girl*S* I remembered Theadora saying Thunder Bay is too small for CDing, yet Fort Frances has a population of about 9,000. Thunder Bay is about 110,000! I left the hotel wearing my purple sweater, black hose, my pleather mini skirt and high heeled boots!! It was a beautiful sunny day, and a perfect day for shopping:-)
My first stop was to Saan!!! A few years ago, when I'd travel to Fort Frances, I used to think it was too small for even an evening drive, never mind walking the streets in broad daylight!! It was about 10:30 am when I parked on Scott St. and walked about half a block in my high heel boots and mini skirt! I can't ever remember seeing a girl wearing a mini skirt in that town, ever!! So I knew I'd stand out, just a bit:-)
I walked into Saan and spent about a half an hour walking about the store among the other customers with not one hint of anyone being concerned! I did manage to find a few T-shirts, a red one and a black one, on sale for $ 7.99 each! GOD it felt terrific to walk out of that store with my purchase. As I did, a couple with their kids were entering and the guy steps back and holds the door open for me:-) See, being a GIRL has privleges!
On my way out of town, I stopped at Food Town, went in and although I only bought a package of gum, it was such a thrill to just be out doing every day things, wearing a mini skirt! I can wear pants every day of the week, and yes, I know what everyone says about passing, to "dress down". But when I find that I am accepted even when I "dress up", the way I see it is that I might as well just go out and be myself and have fun!
It was a nice day for a drive, down Hwy. 11 to Kenora. Once I got to Kenora, I stopped at McDonalds for lunch. I could have used the drive-thru, but that wouldn't be much fun, so into the building I went and stood with a crowd of kids waiting to place my order!! Kids, parents, and staff all around, and there was me, standing in the middle of it in a mini skirt, in Kenora, another town of 10,000!
Thanks for reading my story,
