Meeting Shandi & Vanessa at the Forks Market...
On the evening of Saturday, October 13, 2001, I was going to meet with Shandi and Vanessa and go to Club 200 for the "Miss Club 200 Pageant". For this evening, I wore a wine T-shirt and a knee length black skirt with a front slit, and sensible pumps. Since I was ready way too early:-), I needed something to do that would help pleasantly pass the time. And I can't think of a better way to pass time that doing it as a girl! So, just after dark, I decided to go for a walk at the Forks Market!
The Forks Market, is a market complex built at the junction of the Red and Assiniboine Rivers in the center of Winnipeg, and is a very popular night spot. There is a "farmers market" in the building, upscale dinning, various gift shops, cappuccino bars, an outdoor bar down by the river, and there are the river walkways. About 300 people wandering about, enjoying the evening. I got a parking spot close to the building (Lucky me) and put on my black jacket and went for a walk down by the river. It was just after sun down, and with all the lights it was very well lit and such a pleasant, even romantic setting. I walked past dozens of people, on the main market level, and down by the river. Nobody gave me anything more than a friendly passing smile as they walked past. Of course, I was smiling back. I was so very happy to be enjoying the evening as a girl!!
I walked into the Johnson Terminal, which is an old CNR train shed converted into a multilevel mall, with very pricey shops. The shops were closed, but the mall was open for the Old Spaghetti Factory restaurant and the cappuccino bar. Being a girl, I just walked around casually, looking at all the things on display. Out of curiosity, I paid attention to the reflections too. I am being honest when I say that absolutely no one ever gave me the impression they had "read" me:-) It was a great feeling, being accepted, that is so wonderful and has to be experienced!! The only comment I overheard from anyone, was from a young couple I walked past. I overheard the guy say "is she ever tall" and the girl's response was "she's gorgeous!!".
I was really enjoying the feeling while at the Forks Market. I've been there many many times in guy mode, and this was so special. For a while, I sat on a bench, near the outdoor bar, and overlooking the Assiniboine River. Just sat there, watching the sparkle of the lights reflecting as the river water passed by, and feeling the cool night breeze on my legs:-) I thought back to all the times, years ago, when I've gone out dressed for long walks, on residential sidewalks, away from people, just wanting to be out, doing something, anything. A lot of those times were scary, because I knew they were dangerous things to do. Yet, now, I feel safe, secure, to be out enjoying being a girl, no longer having to be alone, or away from anyone who might "see" me. Yet, on this night, I'll bet there was 300 people in total who saw me, and no one gave me any sign that the figured me out for anything but the real thing:-) I walked right up to and past many GG's, many dressed to kill, yet no one seemed to notice. It was like I was invisible.
As I sat there, my cell phone rang. It was Shandi and she was one her way with Vanessa and would call when they got there. I continued walking about enjoying being a girl, thinking WOW, I'm out, doing real stuff, meeting real people, no longer "Pretending".
Shandi and Vanessa arrived. They both looked terrific! I mean fabulously terrific. Both wore pants and Vanessa was wearing sensible shoes<giggle>, and Shandi was wearing her 5 inch heels!! GOD, can that girl walk in spikes! I kind of felt over dressed being that I was wearing a skirt
. Anyway, we went for a "Girl walk" down to the river, right past the bar!! Shandi had her camera with her (as always) so she got some nice pics of us all together. We thought it was appropriate, to have our pictures taken in front of the "TV" Station.
The "A CHANNEL" television studios are also at the Forks, so we got some pictures in front of the building:-) While we were doing that, a couple with a baby carriage and a few small children were there too. They didn't seem to notice anything different about us other than we were three girls out having fun. We were talking to each other while they were five feet away and they showed no concern at all!!! I though if anything, the parents might notice and wonder, then want get their kids away, but no, we were harmless girls:-) GOD I love that feeling!! Shandi took some more pictures at an old caboose, then it was time to head off to Club 200 for the pageant!! Shandi sent me these pictures, wonderful souvenirs of our evening adventure:-) *Thanks Shandi*
